Happy 10th Birthday to Bonnaroo! The National, “Mistaken For Strangers”, “Anyone’s Ghost”, @ Bonnaroo #9 (Video)

“I’m glad I wore my vest”, quipped lead singer Matt Berninger, who, not even one song into the set looked lobster-baked, his wardrobe-related comment instantly prompting a girl in the crowd (in a mild role-reversal of sorts) to implore him to “Take it off!” — “It’s painted on…even the pants” he joked, creating an absurd visual for my already goofy mind-state to consider, while one iron-lunged dude yelled, with a fan’s true zeal: “You look great!” catching Matt off-guard and, well, warming him, as clearly manifested by the way he expressed thanks, raising his arm and pointing, almost involuntarily…everybody likes to be told they look nice, even lead singers…At times this brother’s hang-dog look — espesh during the slo-mo preceding the second song, “Anyone’s Ghost” — reminds one of the flying dog in The Never-Ending Story, but that’s again, likely just my twisted perception during a brilliant afternoon set at my favorite festival, Bonnaroo…which is taking place from 6/9 – 6/12, 2011. By the way, ‘dude also looks quite a bit like KCRW honcho and URB’s first managing editor, Jason Bentley. As always, much more to come on Bonnaroo, and remember, PRE-SALE TICKETS will be made available November 26th at 12PM Eastern time. In the mean time, here’s a gang of BONNAROO VIDEOS…
