For all the deafening amount of buzz surrounding Daft Punk’s soundtrack for TRON Legacy, the French duo of Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo have be frustratingly silent about their latest creation (dang robots). Finally, the pair have offered up some insite via an interview in the new issue of UK mag Dazed & Confused, which features Daft Punk (or their helmeted stand ins) gussied up in tuxedo vest and bow ties, shot in 3D.
URB has yet to obtain a copy of the new issue, but the fine folks at FACT have broken down much of the interview, where Thomas and Guy-Man discuss their new interest in classical instruments, their disinterest in dance music, and why despite their own contributions, the new TRON is still inferior to the original.
“Coming from our background of making electronic music in a small bedroom, and ending up having our music performed by a 90-piece orchestra, with some of the best musicians in the world…We are lucky to have had the opportunity to experience some powerful moments artistically over the years, but recording this orchestra was a very intense experience.”
“We are definitely excited by music, but just trying to constantly experiment. And sometimes that means going with other art forms, because you think there’s more latitude to experiment with an orchestra than an 808 drum machine and synth.”
“Tron left a strong imprint as a kid. I was eight, he was seven. Maybe I only saw it two or three times in my entire life, but the feel of it is strong even now, that I think the imprint of the first one will not be erased by the new one. It has a real visionary quality to it.”
The TRON Legacy Soundtrack by Daft Punk is out Dec. 7. The film is released in the U.S ten days later on Dec. 17. The new issue of Dazed & Confused is on better newsstands now.
