With all the genre-bending, crossover collaborations and international imports in recent music, it’s getting harder and harder to describe what you’re actually listening to. Unfortunately (for those who like to put things in a box), Maluca isn’t making that any easier. A bronx-born firecracker raised by Dominican parents, Maluca’s sound dances somewhere between tropical punk and a latina pop-rap hybrid— basically, you’re going to have to listen for yourself. With a Mad Decent release on her belt, an opening tour slot for Robyn, and an album on the way, the latin loca they call Maluca is a crazy train running full speed ahead, and shows no signs of stopping anytime soon. I got a chance to catch up with Maluca at her Terminal 5 performance with Robyn in New York. Check it out.![]()
