Jatoma ‘Jatoma’ (Review)

Jatoma

Jatoma

Released by Kompakt

Rumored to contain a world famous producer, Danish newcomers Jatoma have chosen to keep their identities secret. The single press photo in existence of this trio (who also refuse to release their names) is intentionally blurry, showing three clothed male bodies in silhouette against a vast orange- violet sunset.

In similar fashion, the low-pro trio leads the listener on a mysteriously palatable  journey throughout the course of their self-titled debut. Rapt with ethereal frequencies and left-field textures, the production masterminds shine on the pounding house-inspired grooves “Manipurma” and “Durian”, while creating an appealingly ambiguous sonic wonderland on the track “Dust In Wong”.

Other standout tracks include the trippy  Flying Lotus-esque “Alang Beach”, and the percussively ambient dance track “Helix”. Reminiscent of our favorite musical moments from the likes of Animal Collective and Four Tet, this stellar debut by some of music’s most inventive newcomers is sure to have music-lovers world-wide singing their praises.
