While toiling in the underbelly of the UK dance scene for over ten years, producer Dave Tipper has managed to not only attain a reputation for being one of the imminent trip-hoppers of the past decade but also one of the most avid collectors of rare synths and unique instrumentation. On “Broken Soul Jamboree”, Tipper’s 9th full-length studio set, the music maestro feigns tinges of Amon Tobin next to those reminiscent of DJ Shadow while setting off the Hang Drum (an instrument that’s only about a decade old) and other more traditional MIDI synth sounds.
In addition to containing a wide array of instrumental diversity, “Broken Soul” is also a kind of concept album (that’s right, a concept record for the raver set, you did indeed read it right). The LP is theoretically split into five concise “Acts”, each one befitting a different mood and transmitting its own abstract telegram. From opener “Big Question small head” to Act Five closer “Ever Decreasing Circles”, the album suggests a kind geometric approach to charting the electronic music experience and the inevitable allure of experiencing psychedelia while doing so.
Atmospheric and intelligent to a T, “Broken Soul Jamboree” drops early next week via Tippermusic and you can preview the full LP via Soundcloud by clicking RIGHT HERE!
