The Preview
The Philladelphia based Chiddy Bang packs a solid punch with their Virgin Records release The Preview. This alternative pop duo, comprised of rapper Chidera Anamege and producer Noah Beresin, met as under-graduate students at Drexel University. After the success of their first mixtape “The Swelly Express”, the duo rose to social media stardom and soon inked a deal with EMI.
Their radio friendly debut (which features guest appearances by hip-hop royalty Q-Tip and new comer Theodore Grams) applies Chidera’s witty punchlines to the synth like creations of Noah, who cites Radiohead, Gorillaz, and MGMT as some of his largest influences.
Stand out tracks include “The Good Life”–a catchy braggadacio filled with the usual rap leit motifs (i.e.-brushing off the haters and getting money), and ”Opposite of Adults”–the wildly popular and infectious glitch inspired piece with spirited church style tambourines dancing playfully between choruses. Other noteworthy tracks include “Nothing On We”–an ode to the up-ward swim of struggling artists in a sea of industry hopefuls, and “Old Ways”–a hard hitting flow reminiscent of battle rap’s glory days.
The Preview offers only a glimpse of what’s to come from this high energy duo. Excitement is a brew over what they will come up with next.
