Deadmau5 is currently in the process of taking over New York via a 3-night, sold-out stint at Roseland Ballroom. The electro dance juggernaut’s opening slots have so far been held by quite an impressive group of artists, including Kaskade, Die Antwoord, and Calvin Harris. Amongst these big names is (relatively) newcomer Skrillex, who currently is blazing up the Beatport charts with his new EP, “Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites.” Skrillex was given the difficult, oftentimes failed challenge of spinning for a crowd that was still growing, as his set began right as the bulk of the Mau5 fans began to slowly (but surely) show up. This part of the night is arguably one of the most important, as it sets the tone and energy necessary for a Deadmau5 show (aka insanity).
However, Skrillex remained unfazed by the crowd, and seemed to make it grow even faster. It is apparent that Skrillex knows his music and his genre’s audience, which makes him a pretty solid DJ. Wasting no time talking into the mic, the dj-producer instead let his music speak for him via his signature track “My Name is Skrillex” (which really got the party going, I might add). Seamlessly spinning hits by such key artists as Bloody Beetroots and Congorock, the Mau5trap/Big Beat-signed DJ kept the crowd pumping their fists and flailing their glow sticks throughout his entire set, which heavily featured much of his own, impressive production.

and now of course skrillex just hit #1 on beatport an having like 7 of the top 10 spots. another cool write up about skrillex here too: http://lessthan3.com/#!/2010/10/new-skrillex-ep-drops/
