Christopher Rau ‘Asper Clouds’ (Review)

Christopher Rau

Asper Clouds

Released by Smallville

Christopher Rau’s journey began  as a Hamburg based house dj and producer who created waves with the 2009 release of  acclaimed dance-floor single off Derive Records ”Ne Travalleiz Jamais”. Back one year later with his highly anticipated debut ‘Asper  Clouds’, Rau’s nine track treatise contains all the makings of an instant classic.

Jazz -sample heavy and adorned with the sweetest of bass lines, each track induces the listener into a trance like coma with seemingly never ending percussive sections and geniously composed rhythmic loops as heard on the tracks “Always The Same” featuring Jacques Bon and “Ne Travalleiz Jamais”.

Rau’s incorporation of influences from Moodyman to Jay Denes can be heard on the uber sensual dance tracks “Capri” and “Ping To You”, as well as the track ”The Cool World” which features producer Tillman Tausenfreud, one of Rau’s Hamberg based counterparts.

Ambiguous and far reaching in appeal, the magic that Rau creates on  ’Asper Clouds’ is likely to rouse the support  and admiration of the hipster, house head, and tripper alike.
