It didn’t take an astrologist to discover this 12th Planet; Los Angeles born and raised John Dadzie aka 12th Planet has put in serious work this year, easily identified as one of America’s brightest shining dubstep dons on the scene. Currently on tour with Gaslamp Killer and Daedelus, 12th Planet has been melting faces both locally and globally, performing at almost every major US dance event this year, including Electric Daisy Carnival, Hard, Coachella, Nocturnal Wonderland and Winter Music Conference, while also headlining gigs in Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
It was his “Youth Blood” remix with Flinch and the Ras Kass vs 12th Planet “West Coast Dub” tracks that really took off on the web and the dancefloors, adding to the rising star’s loyal fan base and strengthening his street credibility among other prolific producers and promoters of the genre.
“12th Planet first debuted at a Smog Sessions party with Benga and Hatcha in 2007,” said Drew Best, founder of Smog. “He joined our crew and since then we’ve watched him grow from an opening dj to a main room headliner. We all knew he was going to be big but we had no idea it was going to be like this.”
He DJ’s, produces and will even bust a rhyme or two if you catch him in the moment (I got to witness a 12th Planet freestyle sunrise session at WMC earlier this year). Be on the lookout for upcoming remixes, including Rye Rye ft MIA’s “Sunshine” and Uffie ft Pharrel’s “Add Suv”, but in the meantime check out twelve fun facts about him below and peep the new music video, 12th Planet & Juakali “Reasons” (Doctor P remix), ala the ode to his Los Angeles here:
