The Masquerade was the place to be this weekend. Everyone from this rapper and that rapper to the most popular rappers and more rappers joined us for a weekend of; Hip Hop. If you think it was all about Atlanta, think again. People trucked as far as Utah like MC Pig Pen and Pat Maine to to promote and network , all while checking out local heroes like Binkis and Senor Kaos. Brooklyn drove down by the carloads of emcees. Ask Soulkhan and J57 of the Brown Bag All Stars who just just returned home after 17 hour haul. I even met some cool people from Australia who repped to the fullest for, Austrailia.
With a return to the one venue presentation of the festival, you could hop skip and jump from the Pack Fm performance on the 2dopeboyz stage to upstairs in the back to an appearance at the Jakprints Stage and see Hezekiah and Mindsone perform, and get a taste of LA with Those Chosen in the mix (URB 100) and also run back and catch Shawn Chrystopher play a set.
My favorite room to actually hang in and listen to new music was the Perfect Attendance Stage, where lots of my favorite acts came from ( I didn’t see my favorite acts perform though before this). With over 200 people on stage, I must say that it’d be tough to choose the top 5 acts of the entire festival. Don’t feel bad if you didn’t make it, but if you were selected to be in this festival, you are capable of being in the top. you are capable of blowing up and thats why that brought you down here.
If you were not in attendance, or not selected to perform, just remember it like this. No one ever got on to the Yankees without watching them play in their prime location. They experienced and understood what I meant to be there. (by no means is Masquerade Yankee Stadium but you get it I hope)
While Kidz In the Hall said it best, there is no festival like A3C. SXSW doesn’t have a complete hip hop line up, and neither does CMJ. A3C is the Mecca of a Hip Hop Festival that unites the entire community.
Here are 10 acts that captured an amazing performance, in no particular order.
Jackie Chain
Ok. He Is Korean, he is weird looking, and he has big chains. He has Asian people rolling heavy for him. He has Black girls taking off their panties and throwing them on stage. He has weird white girls jumping for him thinking he is a weird thugged out a white guy. He is also from Alabama. There must be something about a guy yelling “get my money Hoe” that just gets all the girls going coco for coco puffs. Some people actually thought there was a typo on the bill, thinking it was the actual Jackie Chan, but rest assured this was not Jackie Chan. This was MR. Chain, aka the guy responsible for all the panties thrown on stage and one Bra that hit my head while I mash pitted with some random down south dudes.

Great article man, loving all the vid footage!
Torae, Homeboy Sandman, and Mindsone were the rawest performances i checcked.
Sandman had the best showing of the night. Oh and my lil jewish homie’s name is Soul Khan, not Soul Kahn.
