If you grew up around Chicago everyone and your grandmother knew “Percolator” by Cajmere. I remember watching a bunch of girls grind up on 7th grade boys at cramped Jr High party while the room and the apartments next door blared with people shouting “it’s time for the percolator”. The song in my lifetime has been played in everything from baby showers, weddings, all my school dances, ringtones and this summer I heard it blanketing Union Park while Cajmere a.k.a Green Velvet performed at North Coast Music Festival. While it might be unknown to all these people how big this song is globally, it makes me feel good that these same people who grew up on dancing to “Percolator” are tipping their hats to a childhood club hit and reintroducing it into to all the new crowds. Who knows what 7th grade house party this Major Lazer remix is being played at now.
