It was just announced that Sacha Baron Cohen will be playing Freddie Mercury in an upcoming Queen film. Yes, Bruno/Ali G/ Borat will be Freddie Mercury one of the best performers of all time and frontman of Queen. The screenplay is being written by Oscar nominee Peter Morgan who also worked on The Queen and The Last King of Scotland and produced by Academy Award winner Graham King, so at least we have this film being treated right not just some Hollywood spit-up. According to some other articles the film will be set from the formation of the band up to Live Aid in ‘85 which was one of Queen’s major career highlights. I hope they get the rights to “Somebody to Love”! It is yet to be determined whether or not Sacha will be singing in the film but really, who on earth can even come close to Freddie’s vocal range? I haven’t been this excited since Selena.
