Mark Hoppus has a mildly busy day job as the bassist, frontman and founding member of irreverent punk-pop band Blink-182. Starting tonight at 7pm ET, though, the musician and producer can add “TV host” to his resumé with the premiere episode of “A Different Spin With Mark Hoppus” on Fuse.
Co-hosted by comedian Amy Schumer (”Last Comic Standing”), the weekly show promises, according to Fuse, to be a “place for music fans to discover and indulge their passions through interviews with artists and celebrities and musical performances by mainstream and emerging bands.” Given Hoppus’s reputation for goofiness and fun, we’re thinking less Dick Cavett show and more three-ring circus. Look for a combination of music news, panel discussions and field reporting from various musical events and festivals. Perennial controversy magnet John Mayer, recently on a Twitter sabbatical, will be Hoppus’s first guest, with Utah buzz band Neon Trees devirginizing the musical stage.
URB had the pleasure of chatting with Hoppus earlier this week in New York, where the musician held court on everything from stealing a cab from Robert Redford earlier that night to the anticipated return of Blink-182. He said the band is currently in the studio working on the follow-up to 2003’s self-titled fifth album and that the germination of numerous songs have already been laid down. Good news for fans of the group who broke up in 2005 and reunited for the first time at the Grammy Awards last year.
