Reports are coming in that the world famous DJ Jazzy Jeff (probably the first “DJ” most Americans ever knew) was removed from Las Vegas club Surrender / Encore after management decided they didn’t like what the DJ was playing at a special tribute to DJ AM. Jeff reported traveled to Vegas specifically for the event (possibly for free) since this was charity event. Jeff tweeted:

this wasn’t the first time club management has asked Jeff to step down from the decks recently. Last year, he was booted off-stage by management of a Kansas City venue, allegedly for playing hip-hop music.

Hi, just doing some browsing for my Iowa 4g website. Lots of information out there. Looking for something else, but nice site. Have a good day.
What a shame ….How could they do that to Jeff …..This fuckin country has lost its mind! Mad respects and props to Jeff! 4 life hermano
hold up! hold up!
a message to URB mag/site: let us decide for ourselves if he was not up to the task of paying tribute. doesn’t anybody got a video snippet of it somewhere? listen, if it was wack enough for him to be fully booted off the decks, then let’s see the proof…because if his performance was disrespectful or just straight up WACK, i will stand with you guys on that account. but to throw jeff under the bus like that? without any bad grainy vids with some lo-fi sound good enough to judge for ourselves??? :./
furthermore, being a dj myself, i’d like to respond to, “after management decided they didn’t like what the DJ was playing at a special tribute to DJ AM.” i’m positive a third or even up to half your staff are dj’s/producers, or have, at the very least dabbled with the craft…so the following shouldn’t be news to you…promoters and/or management, many times have trouble translating what they’d like you play versus what your idea of their hairbrained scheme really is. so the headline on the article seems a bit presumptuous when we consider who is kicking him off. while this may seem trivial to some. this point must be made considering your audience and their capacity to assume that he trainwrecked all night! jeff’s tweet above reminds me of a gig i had in long beach where my crowd was 75% college kids. this was about 5 years ago. i was working the crowd into a lather that night. it was dope! towards the night’s crescendo, i dropped mystikal’s shake it fast right into snoopy’s drop it like it’s hot. that’s right about when the owner came up and proceeded to scream at me for playing ‘gangster’ music! she kicked me off while the joint was bangin! kids from the crowd were like, “what happened?” it was the only gig i got booted for killing it! and no, the owner never specified not to play ‘gangster rap’ to me prior to the gig. i was blindsided with it.
so please, will someone post some kind of evidence before any further muckraking???
signed,
in defense of the DJ…
SuperCarDioid
SuperCarDioid, that shit was wack 110% without question. Jeff flew himself out to represent a dear friend and kindred spirit in music for the 1 year anniversary of his death and got yanked by some bullshit Vegas management that most likely got his position working through the ranks starting at bar back. Not to say that bar backing is beneath me but…how does that qualify someone as an expert on music and how people react to music as opposed to someone with the life and musical experience as Jazzy Jeff? Doesn’t even come close to adding up.
Anyways…Jeff was playing his tribute set to a big Vegas industry crowd, got yanked and escorted out of the club by the second in command because the main mgr. didn’t have the balls to do it himself. Epic fail on all accounts.
From a Vegas industry peep and DJ. Absolutely embarrassed on all levels…

There’s been some other incidents of big name DJs being pulled from clubs in Vegas because the bottle service crowd isn’t feeling it. The irony is that unlike a local DJ paying his dues, SuperCarDioid, it’s probably safe to assume that this was a well advertised event.
Agreed that some footage would be good. We couldn’t find any at the time we posted the news, but it might be worth looking again. But unless someone stood their with their 4G for the whole night, it’s kinda hard to really know what the set was like based on a few minutes.
fuck that! i saw Jazz spin a couple years ago and he killed it! It was like a greatest hip-hop hits super set.
WOW. Massive FAIL.
