Bringing Back the 90’s (Video)

pixel Bringing Back the 90sThe always oh so fabulous New York Times reported that we’ll all be looking like Elaine from Seinfeld this upcoming fall. Not only are they pretty much spot on about past trends from the Spring ready to wear shows but Alexander Wang I suspect secretly gets his inspiration from The Baby-Sitters Club Movie. It’s also no surprise that music itself has gotten a bit 1990’s itself.

Azari and III’s “Reckless with Your Love”, Lady Gaga’s “Dance in the Dark”, “Monster”, “Alejandro” and Yeasayer’s “Madder Red” all include some form of the electronic explosion in the 90’s which made me fall in love with House Divas.

There are even signs that Rockabilly/Ska/Alt-Rock are here to reign from MGMT’s Celebration album to people like Imelda May climbing up from beneath us along with our re-born fascination of pin-up and Daria.

This all got me thinking on some of my favorite songs from the decade that brought us the Spice Girls, House music and “California Love”. Here are some of the songs that make me sing along and put on my biking shorts and mini skirt à la Full House.

Madonna “Justify My Love”

Ace of Base “Don’t Turn Around”

Black Box “Ride on Time”

Janet Jackson “Again”

Smashing Pumpkins “1979″

Natalie Imbruglia “Torn”

Notorious B.I.G ft Mase & Puff Daddy “Mo Money Mo Problems”

Paula Cole “Where Have All The Cowboys Gone”

Next “Too Close”

Alice Deejay “Better Off Alone”

Marilyn Manson “Cryptorchid”
