When asking about stories from the tour, Andrew Stockdale (lead singer / lead guitarist) smirked and had this to say:
“We were in Aspen a couple of nights ago. And the promoter took us out to dinner and asked, ‘do you mind if i bring a friend along?’ I was sitting right next to this guy and asked, ‘what do you do?’”
“I ride” said the promoter’s friend.
Stockdale, a little dumbfounded continued, “Ride around locally or….”
“Oh no, I go around in races and stuff like the Tour de France” responded the friend.
Impressed and shocked, Stockdale: “Wow, you been in the Tour de France”
“Yea, I won it five times” says the friend.
Stockdale concluded, “It turns out, I’m an idiot. I didn’t know it was Lance Armstrong. We hung out though though: had sushi, you know.”
