Funny how times change. In 2008, M.I.A. cause a sensation at Coachella when she invited the crowd to rush the stage during her set in the Sahara tent. A little over two years later and the same sort of behavior at the Big Chill festival got her set cut short. Of course, it’s just more grist for the mill that has been M.I.A.’s troubled 2010. but it goes to show how there seems to be a double standard between what emerging artists can get away with, and what established artists get smacked-down for.
The festival posted a message from M.I.A.’s management on their Facebook Page, stating:
A spokesperson for M.I.A. has tonight thanked the wonderful audience at The Big Chill for the fantastic reception received and apologised for having to cut the last song short because of the overwhelming demand for fans to come on stage when only a few were expected.
