In Shan Nicholson’s directorial debut, Downtown Calling, New York City cultural icons survey the artistic renaissance in the midst of the city’s civic chaos during the late 70’s. The film, narrated by Deborah Harry, documents the birth of NYC’s unique grassroots movements that would go on to make a prodigious impact in today’s global pop culture. The cast features quintessential characters of the period from Arthur Baker to Zephyr, as the spokespeople for “a family of homegrown cultures that would forever change the world…”
Downtown Calling makes it’s hometown premier in New York City, Wednesday, July 28th at the School of Visual Arts during the International Latino Film Festival.
