The Foreign Exchange

The Foreign Exchange

The Roxy was packed. Foreign Exchange went on earlier than I expected and gave an amazing performance. It was my third time seeing them, and the set was jaw dropping. I will purchase the new album without a doubt.

Phonte covers Drake’s “find your love”. Making fun of the ever popular talk box effect he used on the chorus the crowd’s reaction wasn’t instantly in sync with his sense of humor. “I fuck with Drizzie! People ask me like, do I feel bad or whatever he stole my shit? Naw! The Best thing you can have happen is someone take your thing and elevate it. The foreign exchange way back machine as if it were Kingston Jamaica in 1967! Dub step takes on the catalog and what his ragga music handle would be if this r&b music doesn’t work out.

The crowd’s intensity rose and wained like the tides and Coleman was the moon. “What do y’all wanna hear?” he asked late in the set? Various song titles are screamed across the venue from the v.i.p area and merch booth alike. “Sweeter than you” was the most requested, and after Yazarah and Phonte exchange glances the band played the intro. “We never do this.” Applause, couples looking into each others eyes kissing passionately, a real soul show and crowd. Not to mention crowded, I spilled my second drink. I remember Yaz saying her new video had just been picked up for rotation on MTV today. DSC 1785 400x265 Foreign Exchange 7/21 Roxy Theatre Live Review

Darrien Brockington came off astounding. The women behind me could not get enough of his runs and when he did his number? Man, Sy smith came at one of several high points of the show to do a beautiful ode to Prince with “Crazy you” that brought down the all ready fanatic crowd admitting “Wikipedia is a beautiful thing” regarding the ease of finding out particular song information from yesteryear. “I see some familiar faces and some new ones, whose been to a Foreign Exchange concert before?” Whichever rings true for you, neither will be disapointed. This is one of the best shows I’ve ever been to in my life. The combination of singers, and a beyond familiar backing band of collgeaues and a bass player named kush, I really can not think of one thing lacking for that show. Zo!’s new banger was dropped and it’s enough for me to cop the album, SunStorm that drops on the 27th. Ultimately Phonte nodded to both the vocalists, and with every other member of the band during “the Foreign Exchange Show me your love” countdown. His R&B renditions of Gucci Mane’s “Lemonade” and Soulja Boy’s “Turn my swag on” were moments of both comic and musical perfection. The Foreign Exchange has about sixteen thousand friends on facebook. I would guess this is due to the fact that they don’t artificially boost their numbers like major labels do. By the time 2011 comes around I have feeling they will have more followers than say, a magazine. Hype isn’t their thing, don’t make me sell you on it, see it for yourself if your lucky enough to have the chance.
