Insomniac Events, the promotions company behind Electric Daisy Carnival, has announced a new 18+ policy, effective immediately for all of its dance music festivals, following the death of a 15-year-old attendee at EDC due to a drug overdose. These include Audiotistic, the “massive” scheduled to take place at the NOS Event Center in San Bernadino on July 24th. Other events possibly effected include Electric Daisy Carnival – Puerto Rico, scheduled for Aug 28, 2010, Nocturnal Festival – Texas (Sept. 5-6), and Nocturnal Festival – LA (Sept. 25). Ticket holder under the age of 18 will be eligible for refunds.
The company has also announced that it has hired consulting firm Investigative Advisory Group, to analyze Insomniac’s “current and proposed safety protocols and procedures for the company’s music festivals throughout the United States.” The 18+ policy will remain in effect until recommendations of IAG are complete.
Insomniac also produces several 21+ events, including weekly parties at Tao Beach in Las Vegas. We are awaiting word on whether the new policy will cover concert events, such as Infected Mushrooms, performing at Hollywood’s Music Box this weekend, and Kaskade, booked to play two nights at the Hollywood Palladium in October. Update: The new policy also covers all club events presented by Insomniac, including a two-night stint by EDC headliner Kaskade at the Hollywood Palladium.
(Is this the way forward for dance music events in America? How old were you when you started raving?)

I started raving at 14, but I was smart about it. I raved sober and I was with people I trusted completely. I know a lot of underage kids who were ravers and were responsible about it. This girl was 15, breaking the EDC 2010 16+ age limit. I will say the guards did not check IDs of anyone while entering and I saw kids who looked to be about 12 wearing just bras and underwear. It is both the fault of that girl, her parents and Insomniac for not making their guards check IDs properly. So why not lift the ban? and just check IDS for 16+ If a minor wants to go to a rave then they should have proper identification anyway in case anything happens to them. If anyone is a non-sober raver like a few of my friends. They should check with other people and actually know where their stuff is coming from. Or just go sober. Because last year I saw 3 guys obviously raging high. One was rolling around on the ground and doing summer-salts, another was in an ambulance being held down so they could give him fluids via IV he tried escaping 4 times and about 5 people had to hold him down and the last guy was crawling on his knees like a dog.
Horrible move. Why blame someone else?
People should be staring at the 15 year old girl and her parents.
who gives a fuck raving is fucking lame anyways not to mention mainstream.
that shit was sick back in the day but wtf now theres all this kid kudi shit and what the fuck is lil john doing at edc in the first place? maybe if shit wasnt somainstream you wouldnt have little girls who have never dropped before thinking they can handle more than they should.
laaaaaaaaaaame
you guys are all fuckin gay!
I was there photographing the thing and I saw a 14 year old kid find two pills off the ground. I got hit on by half naked under age girls and everyone had elmo backpacks. I just can’t see how it would be a bad thing to make parties 18+.
I started going to punk shows at 15 and that was probably a terrible idea. And as far as the rave scene goes I had a dozen friends doing K every day by 16 & 17. Most of my friends survived those times it but a bunch of them didnt.
Started at 16, don’t think its fair for this to happen but whatever its about the money to these huge promoters obviously.
And Infected Mushrooms is 21 plus by the way, no need to wait for word on 18 plus for that.
I am sorry, but you must be slow.
This is going to decrease the attendance by a significant amount.
Sure… some more people will attend now that they don’t have to worry about scantily clad twee’s, but the amount of CHILDREN (yes, mostly irresponsible children) that attend these events are by the hoards.
Also, it isn’t like they have much of a choice after that underage girl OD’d at EDC. If we still want raves at venues like this they have to adapt the rules to make it safer and to appease politicians and the anti-raving population.
This is going to end up putting a dent in ticket sales, not make the promoters more money.
I still think it’s on the parents to know what their kids are out doing.
