Unreleased demos of known songs are usually the lowest form for bonus content, saved for the end of the second disc of a 25th anniversary double CD package, when every last available bit of recorded music is scraped off the barrel for obsessive fans only. But every now and again, you hear a demo that opens up a world of “what if” possibilities.
Not saying that this unheard version of “EMG” off of 2007’s I’ll Sleep When You’re Dead is a JJ Abrams quality reboot, but the kindler, gentler Meters- style funk of this demo version is an eyebrow raiser, when played against the far more edgy original. Kinda makes us want El-P to go all Pete Rock for an album or two.
El-P’s instrumental album, Weareallgoingtoburninhellmegamixxx3 is due out Aug. 3.

EL-P is Genius…. like Kanye.
