Countdown to Camp Bisco IX: We Have A Remix Contest Winner!! (MP3)

We’re two weeks away from CB9 in New York (you can still score a few of the remaining 3-day passes for $155, up until 7/14, plus they’ve extended the 90-day interest-free bill me later option) and it’s time to announce the winner of URB.com’s & MixMatchMusic Remix Wizard’s remix contest, which was a massive, global beat-battle. This year saw more entrants then ever, all delivering wildly varied styles, from nearly every continent. Here are the sounds delivered by the winners. THANKS & RESPECT to everybody who entered — YOU make our global music community thrive and YOU keep it moving forward…CB9 Remix contest runners-up:

King Britt “The Intricate Beauty” Technobears Redux by Ed Haskins

Bassnectar “Cozza Frenzy” McArthur Bass Mix by Hubsmoke, Faccio & Reza

Disco Biscuits “On Time” Full Static Mix by Aman Ellis

This year’s winner is Harrisburg, PA’s DJ Geoffro, aka Topshotta, who blessed Black Seeds’ “Slingshot” with his brilliant “Topshotta Redub” — look for him to bring his massive sound to the Bisco stage (check schedule)

Black Seeds “Slingshot” Topshotta Redub by Topshotta‘]

“I’m really excited about the opportunity to play a set at the massive Camp Bisco festival. The lineup this year is ridiculous. Thanks to everyone who took a moment to listen and vote on my remix, I appreciate it. There are a lot of great elements to that Black Seeds tune that I felt would translate well to a dub, so I tried to keep the feel and movement of the original, but put my spin on it and dub it out.”
- Geoff Altoff, DJ Geoffro aka Topshotta

i was one of those \five\ people checkin him out, and thought he did a pretty good job… gotta admit i was curious to see who won. it was the first set of the day at NOON, so didn’t really expect a peak hour set, i actually prefer the rootsy, reggae influenced dubstep to all that noisy, techy, wonk wonk wonk… it seems some \dubstep\ has lost the DUB. there were more than 5 people and it started to fill up as people started waking up and milling about, even had some dancers & hoopers. ease up on the haterade fool, makes you sound like an ass.

  2. WE all been says:

HAHAHAHA I saw saw some of DJ Topshotta’s set at BISCO it was at about as interesting as his remix ZZZZZZzzzzzzz and there were like 5 people watching him…..hahahah…..

  3. cozza frenzy says:

bnagin on 18’s bangin on 18’s bangin on 18’s……………………………

  4. calm down says:

first of all, to ALL the haters, your comments make you sound petty and juvenile. so you didn’t win and aren’t happy with who did, but by making comments like some of you did, not only are you disrespecting the hosts of this contest, but the festival and it’s organizers as well. this was an incredible opportunity to work with material from some great artists, and there was some incredible work submitted. my mix didn’t win either, but i am not gonna throw a temper tantrum and bad mouth those who did. congratulations to EVERYONE who won and thank you to ALL who were involved in putting this together.

  5. asdf says:

I like them except for the Cozza Frenzy one. What the fuck is that shit, it’s revolting. I’d bring noise canceling headphones to Bisco so I wouldn’t have to hear that mess.

  6. Eros says:

Anyone else notice that the guy who won grand prize has a glowing review on his myspace from the same magazine that ran the contest? Perhaps that explains why he won even though his mix was sub par and unpopular. I hope he doesn’t make a fool of himself at Bisco. That would be a shame, but it tends to happen when you play favorites with musicians who aren’t up to speed.

  7. Jack says:

This is bs… Erothyme should have won the bassnectar remix. Hands down. I hope you realize how serious it is when you discourage the most talented people… whether they let it effect them or not.

  8. Seriously … no disrespect to any of the winners … but SERIOUSLY?!??! Im not even saying mine was the best … but there definitely was better ones … and why being all sneaky with the results – do you know how hard it was to find this ?!? not even on the main site, or the remix site … WTF?

Well if you want you can check out my remix here, and download for FREE

interesting… the way you type your ellipsis (…) and go like THIS! and WTF is exactly like sore loser slungshot down there. ;)

  9. question says:

Did a deaf retard judge this contest? the winner had 24 votes. what was the purpose of voting? anyone? bueller?

    • s says:

It seems that the purpose of voting was to get people to spread the word about Camp Bisco by having them promote their remixes. It also seems that you’re a bit bitter about the results, so I suggest you just calm down and relax, it’s just music.

      • Slungshot says:

“It’s just music” … WRONG! It’s a contest… not just some jam session in your dad’s basement. WTF… can we get a detailed transcript of the reasons why Topshotta’s redub is worthy of even being considered for the top 10 mixes? Aren’t the stipulations for winning the contest: 25% votes, 25% Artistic, 25% plays, 25% comments? ok … Topshotta: 24 votes, unoriginal “womp” on 1/8th and 1/16ths, who knows who would’ve played that song more than 50 times, 0 comments! NONE!… contest is bullshit therefore your argument is invalid.

      • Biscokid says:

        yea what he said

      • yo says:

yo slungshot, nothing you said makes sense. it IS just music and you know what Camp Bisco DIDN’T NEED to have this contest. it’s an opportunity, nothing more. It’s really too bad you’re being a sore loser, or at least coming off like one (a real whiney, ignorant one at that).

and if it’s really that important to ya, just man up and tell me who’s remix you’re defending i can tell you exactly why it didn’t win. but why even let it get to that point? just suck it up and learn and progress and dude, just keep making music.
