There’s been some negative news and videos online about the gatecrashing/rioting teens-out-of-control occurrences during Electric Daisy Carnival this past weekend. But what hasn’t been discussed much is how one of our own pick for, um, Worst of EDC, rapper/MC and Benny Benassi cohort Lil Jon, actually stepped up big time when it counted. And in my book, he should get a “Best of” for sure.
As Laidback Luke stirred the Coliseum’s late day stew of stripped down beats and tribal drums, a wave of opportunistic jerks decided to flashmob the fences separating the bleachers from the field (read: assholes with no regard to the event, themselves or anybody they might hurt in the process). The event went from great vibe to heads wondering if they should get the hell out of the way. Watch the video for the full unfolding melee, but it’s what happens next that is so fucking cool.
Lil Jon (and I had no idea who it was at the time, other than a concerned guy on stage with big cojones) got on the mic and told those kids what’s really up. And he did it by enlisting the crowd to join in the push back. The festival went from nearly out-of-control flash-riot in the stands to quelled in a matter of moments. And it was largely due to a massive chorus of boos and all eyes focused on repelling the crashers.
Props to the show’s resident loudmouth for providing me with my best EDC moment hands down. He also proved that we can police ourselves if we all speak up when it counts. And we better start doing that if we want to be back there next year.

This stage was a mess and the coordinators fucked up big time. No one wanted to be stuck in the bleachers and hopping or rushing the fence was the only way down…
