June 26th 2010. SA-RA rocks the midnight hour at zanzibar in Santa Monica, Ca. Damefifty5 came out with only a drummer. A few songs lead to “Buzz Lightyear”. A female fan hands him a daisy as he claims “I was onstage at electric daisy festival yesterday, this is beautiful.” The DJ Skitz comes out at the drop of a hat and plays some mood music between sets. Nola Darling comes out in their monogram “ND” jackets, warning “the mighty SA-RA is coming.” Om’mas takes the stage in a shimmering cape followed by Shafiq Husyan in camolague army jacket with his signature beret and black stunner shades “The L’s coming.”

Hollywood, Dirty Beauty, Breezy’s band segues into his material. A new song produced P.U.D.G.E blares through the speakers as Joy serenades the Russian fans begin grinding the stage. Now that I think of it, he was there singing every word to Breezy’s set. SA-RA comes out for an encore that leaves the crowd going nuts close to 2 am. Management turns the lights on and the songs continue. “We love you” Om’mas proclaims. Outside familar faces meet new acquaintances, and I overhear Goapele was in the house, fresh from her outdoor performance in downtown Los Angeles earlier this week.

Breezy Love Joy gets from behind the drums and comes out to perform brand new material.

Om’mas Keith commands the stage from behind his vintage Wurlizter mid chorus on “Hollywood”.

P.U.D.G.E reflects on his favorite moments during the show. I look forward to hearing the material he and Breezy have created together in the studio tomorrow morning, but by the looks of it, I may not get any sleep.
