Snoop Dogg Prepares To Release Priority Records Compilation Album

The house that Snoo Snoo basically runs now has been home to some of hip hop’s brightest and most controversial stars (including the man himself). Now on July 13th, Priority Records will be releasing their very first Greatest Hits compilation entitled Snoop Dogg Presents: My #1 Priority. The album features 17 tracks from artists such as Ice Cube, EPMD, Mack 10, and Master P — not to mention damn near every other artist to ever grace the No Limit Records roster. The album will also feature Snoop’s freshly recorded remake of “Pay Ya Dues,” the first and last single from Low Profile, a group that once featured WC.

July 13th also marks the re-release date of 4 U.S.D.A. (”Uncut Snoop Dogg Approved”) classic albums from the Priority catalogue: Ice Cube’s “Death Certificate”, C-Murder’s “Trapped In Crime”, TRU’s “Da Crime Family”, and Snoop’s own “Tha Last Meal.” The incumbent Creative Chairman will also be contributing to these projects via his brand new, personally-written liner notes — penned in a style that is unmistakeably his own.

Of the C-Murder re-release Snoop writes: “Trapped In Crime is a great record that was put together very swell from top to bottom. It’s a real hard, edgy, southern gangsta rap record. You know, stories told from the mind of a young gangsta rapper. It changed hip-hop in a real special way because it showed that No Limit had depth, and that Master P was for real. He had a team, and C-Murder was one of the main players.”

I couldn’t agree more; and I would know, seeing as how I was a die-hard No Limit fan as a youngster (I had the cheap, knockoff chain and everything). I was essentially introduced to hip-hop through No Limit’s music, and much of it still sits on my iPod to this day. The material seemed slightly buffoonish on the surface, but behind all those gaudy (ridiculous) Pen & Pixel covers, there actually were some extremely talented MCs. It’s only fitting that nearly half of the tracks appearing on My # 1 Priority originated from the groundbreaking New Orleans label that enjoyed so much success under the Priority umbrella.
