We’ve gotten used to daily M.I.A. news as the release of her new album approaches, but here’s a two-fer. First is the remix of “XXXO,” Maya’s poppiest selection yet, and nothing makes a hit like Jay-Z on the verse who rhymes “XXXO” with “metro-sexual,” reminding us that he really is the GOAT.

Next comes “Steppin’ Up,” which was just played on Zane Lowe’s BBC broadcast (how come they get all the debuts?) The song’s Willy Wonka-meets-Hellraiser vibe is about a million miles the pop-tartiness of “XXXO” which is probably why M.I.A. decided to leak it. The song is allegedly on the new album, although it’s not on any tracklist we’ve seen. Psh—albums, tracklists, does it matter anymore? iTunes b-side bonus track, who cares?
