Last night on Toca Tuesdays, Tony dedicated three out of the four hours of his show to the life and memory of the late great rapper Guru. Owen Lamb, Guru/Gang Starr’s lawyer, came up to the show to add to the discussion. We also had calls from Scarface, Greg Nice, Doo Wop, and Bun B call in to talk about how Guru impacted their lives. Even the calls we received were of people telling stories of meeting Guru or just how his music affected their lives. The following are the talk breaks from hours 2 – 4 of last nights Toca Tuesdays, all with descriptions of each.
Clip 1 – Scarface calls in and talks about how their song “Betrayl” came about. http://usershare.net/3xqhvmbmorjm
Clip 2 - Guru’s lawyer Owen Lamb talks about how he first started working with Guru, how he first met Tony, and how he connected both Tony and Guru for the Jazzmatazz tour in 1996. The two then reminisce on the Jazzmatazz tour and the many roles that Owen played. http://usershare.net/51d7ek9gnpnd
Clip 3 - Tony and Owen continue to reminisce on the tour. Tony makes a comment on how he feels Guru played an integral role in the creation of Neo-Soul music. Later, Greg Nice calls in and speaks candidly on how he came up with Guru in the early 80’s. He speaks on the time Guru spent as a social worker during the day, and working hard pursuing his dreams at night. He then talks about the first Summer Jam, and how his attitude changed towards the show when they got to perform “Dwyck”. http://usershare.net/tm29ajm6hf1v
