Jimetta Rose – “Renaissance Interview” & Birthday Performance

No Tags

Frequent collaborator with the SA-RA Creative Partners and Georgia Anne Muldrow, Ms. Rose is already building quite the reputation for her energetic solo stage show and has just released “The Barber’s Daughter” earlier this year. I recently had a chance to sit down and ask about her favorite artists, working with new media at the eWorld Electronic Music Awards where she performed alongside SA-RA.

1. How did you first link up with Shafiq Husayn and SA-RA Creative Partners?

I met Shafiq and them through Noni Limar, a mutual friend of ours, whose also on the album. Shafiq asked her to bring me to do some background work. I had already worked with Georgia (Anne Muldrow) at this point so maybe he heard of me that way.

2. Other than them, what artists would you love to collaborate with on your next solo project if you had infinite choice?
I would love to work with Bilal again, Erykah Badu (wishful thinking) Foreign Exchange, Mushinah, Diba$e, Ras G, Ta’Raach, Fatima, Blu, Darien Brockington, too many to list.

3. When did you decide that the non-major label recording industry was something you would dedicate yourself to full time?
It wasn’t a conscious decision at first you know? I was just doing me. Then it all came together, an epiphany.. this is where the freedom is and honestly there was no looking back after that point.
4. What advice would you give to developing artists in the 3rd world countries & small cities outside of LA & the US to be helpful, happy & humble?
The internet is your outlet. Use it, make the music that you believe in and put it out yourself. The world is listening, follow your dreams and the possibilities are endless!

5. How much do you think the recognition makes or breaks artists these days? Do European tour schedules outweigh the domestic mainstream video outlets?
I think if your looking to be “mainstream”, and that matters to you, American recognition matters. But if your looking to re-route the stream of music so to speak, europe is the best bet. Good music has always been appreciated in Europe. America hates to feel left out so its still a roundabout way to get recognition in the states but its choice every artist must ask themselves. These days a well produced video on Youtube is almost as good as a rotation on the cable networks.

6. How big has youtube/twitter’s impact been on the artist/fan relationship as far as you’ve seen personally through family and friends?
It has erased the gap. You can truly communicate with one another. There’s nothing stopping anyone sending their favorite celebrity nowadays except themselves

7. What do you think the future holds as far as the combining of traditional “fans” and new found “followers” as far as direct to consumer exclusive content?
The renaissance is upon us. I’m just happy to play my part.
Ms. Rose will be in the birthday spirit at the event, come out and shoot her the love directly…
