Badu has drawn a little controversy over her latest video “Window Seat” which allegedly mocks the Kennedy assassination in Dallas, Tx. 4 hours ago its become the 9th most popular search on Google. I was at the free show less than that! Some say its tasteless, but I beg to differ after seeing her perform mere minutes ago at Jimmy Kimmel Live, here in Los Angeles. I just also heard through the grape vine about her Secret Release Party show at the El Rey. Perfect for the subway or silent elevator, I cant get enough of her next in the New Amerykah series.
I cant say how crazy technology is where at the show people took photos, uploaded them to the internet, then Google brings up random comments on her album from people mixed with her Tweets about the sound check for show two, in Los Angeles on the day the album comes out. Its sure to be a winner with DJ sets from J.Rocc, Nobody & Kutmah, its definetly worth the $33 ticket cost. The Window Seat video’s blood entrails are spelling out “Group Think” according to Erykah Badu via Twitter. Topic of discussion amongst her followers recently it refers to the ” type of thought exhibited by group members who try to minimize conflict and reach consensus without critically testing, analyzing and evaluating ideas. Individual creativity, uniqueness, and independent thinking are lost in the pursuit of group cohesiveness, as are the advantages of reasonable balance in choice and thought that might normally be obtained by making decisions as a group. A variety of motives for this may exist such as a desire to avoid being seen as foolish, or a desire to avoid embarrassing or angering other members of the group. The term is frequently used pejoratively, with hindsight.” (Wikipedia)
Some quotes on the album so far from the media : (The Wall Street Journal’s Speakeasy blog) “a throwback to her 1997 debut, Baduizm, with a more acoustic feel”. (Vibe.com) “Badu delivers an album that offers the emotional highs, lows and maddening complexities of being involved in a romantic relationship.” (Okayplayer.com), “The album is dope.” With production from Ta’Raach, Bilal, James Poysner, Madlib, 9th Wonder and others its no surprise its another in a long line of classics from a truly timeless contemporary voice.
