My music of choice is usually among the hip hop genre, but I have an open enough mind to listen to just about anything. One non hip hop album that I have on my radar is Lady Daisey and her In My Pocket album that drops this coming May on BBE Records. Daisey does have her hip hop roots though. She’s married to one of the most slept on hip hop producers the world has ever known in Batsauce (Surreal, Mr.Lif).The two of them make up two thirds of the hip hop group, The Smile Rays, with Paten Locke (aka DJ Therapy). The duo used to go by the name of Heavenly Noise, but now it’s simply Lady Daisey, with Batsauce on the beats. The funk/soul singer is preparing to release her first solo album and is getting set to release the digital single, “Magical”. The song is a powerful and, well, magical ode to life itself. This week, the original album version has been released. In coming weeks, we’ll see remixes by Paten Locke, DJ Vadim, Supa Dave West (of De La Soul fame), and another by Batsauce.
Lady Daisey has rocked venues around the globe – from small smokey clubsto massive hip hop festivals – her message is one of love and inspiration, soulfully presented over head noddin’ Batsauce beats. Singing since she was 5, Lady Daisey has developed a playful powerhouse style that’s sure to grab the attention and steal the hearts of everyone within ear’s reach.
