Sonic Router: Suburban Sine Wave Surfing (Video)

Fresh cuts from Addison Groove, Ramadanman, Joker, Scuba, DJG and Mount Kimbie

Another producer revelling in late nights locked in rooms with big boom inducing systems is Joker. THE undoubted hype producer of 2009, he unleashes one of his most requested beats, “Tron,” (although personally I’m still waiting for “There She Goes” to get a full release) on his own label, Kapsize. Battling, in usual Joker fashion, against scything tortured mid range, cacophonous riffs and scorching hip hop sentiment, “Tron” is an awesome statement for the producer, expected to drop his full length later this year, plus the VIP mix is just bananas, flicking from porn soundtrack to brockout with astounding ease.

Pariah, whose debut release for R&S Records has been sitting in my possession for what feels like months, finally sees a physical release with “Detroit Falls” and “Orpheus” dropping on the wider world later this month. The youngster really shows his versatility with the A-side steaming into his sample bank like a cleaner Slugabed and the flip careering with all the talent and panache of a Scuba record.

And speaking of Scuba – whose “Triangulation” album I’m sure regular followers of this column are sick of me tantalizingly mentioning so fragrantly without ever committing to detail – his label is set to release the 2 Mount Kimbie remix EPs shortly. Comprising of refixes from the 2 Kimbie EPs to date there are versions of “At Least,” “Maybes” and “Serged” by half time d&b dons Instra:mental, James Blake and FaltyDL respectively on the first 12” and interpretations of “Vertical” and “William”  by SCB – Scuba’s militant house and techno guise – and Tama Sumo & Prosumer on the 2nd plate. Other than the obvious – my position deep in the colon of James Blake is patently well documented if you’re adept enough to use google at even a novice level – it’s the versions by Instra:mental and Tama Sumo & Prosumer, especially the latter, that really make each EP worth punting for.

Another producer who’s finally receiving the recognition I just presumed had already happened out in the wider world, San Franciscan rave dweller DJG, is in the midst of an onslaught, dropping collaborative 12”s with XI and Headhunter as well as solo 12”s for numerous labels, the first of which “Avoid The Noid” b/w “Duality” is out on the Pushing Red label this week. Already somewhat of an anthem with Headhunter, “Avoid…” is a fine example of G’s authority when it drops, pummelling bass textures and synth washes hit out at you but when he cloaks it in the descending piano riff, it just lifts the piece out of the bass bins and into a somewhat lighter trajectory before his echoed tech stabs bring it back down to eyes-down cave rave business. Two of G’s slower broiled cuts, ‘The Gate’ and ‘Obsessed’ should also be available on the LoDubs label shortly too.
