DJ Ayres, “Got Me Gone” Featuring GLC (MP3)

Rubber Duck DJ

“…Amazed at all the so-called wanna-be players/showing off they titballs to all the free Gayers…”

Ah yes a punchline from DOOM’s “Batty Boyz,” one that seemed like a subliminal dis of one of New York’s darling hipster DJs. While The Rub is something of a legendary party in the Northeast USA, the crowd that it attracts always seemed to be on the neophyte side perhaps in part to the mash-up formatting the aforementioned DJ sponsors (a format clearly co-opted from Philadelphia’s now-defunct Hollertronix crew, helmed by none other than Diplo). No disrespect at all to Chicago’s GLC but this track is an utter snoozefest and perhaps an example of a DJ getting gassed up off his own press clippings. There are many DJs/producers/crews with technical skill but not all of them honor the rich tradition of Hip-Hop Culture; here is one such violator that will continue to dupe the unitiated but to those that “stay down ’til they come up,” these type-cats’ whole aura is plexiglass.

    fair enough, the song is not good and from what i’m reading on a few blogs this dj has been known to be sort of a self-important weasel, i’m also reading he is known for his mixes and skills, he must be a good DJ, probably just a real prick on a personal level. so ima go with karma catchin up to dude on this one.

    snoozefest is right but the rest of the review is fuckin trash. “co-opted” “neophyte” “these type-cats’ whole aura is plexiglass.” are you serious? you write co-opted like hollertronix is the only crew to ever do mash-ups (which oversimplifies what they,and the rub DJs do, but obviously you’ve never actually been to either of those crews’ parties). is hollertronix the only crew allowed to do mash-ups? cuz they’re certainly not the only one to do good ones (& they are no longer a crew). “whole aura is plexiglass” are you fucking serious again? who the fuck are you anyways? sure i dont like the single either but do you have any clue who you’re criticizing? when you start getting into more than just how bad the song is and start dissing on who the rub is and what they do, you are just being offensive and idiotic. if you wanna critique the single just do that. but when you start talkin about shit you obviously have no fucking clue about, just stop. go listen to their history of hip hop series and actually goto one of their parties and then maybe you can start talking again. gtfo here

      is this bwoi your boo or sumthin’? you seem kinda heated, never seen someone critique a critique before. creative people have to have thick skin, either that or have someone fight their battles for them…never heard this dj’s music before but if it’s all like this, pass…

      • yamomz says:

        obviously they have to be thick skinned. no, he isn’t my bwoi but i saw this and thought someone had to respond this idiocy. i respect good artists and this was not only a bad review, but came at what ayres does as a DJ which is just retarded.

      @yamomz:

      Pretty sure it was DJ Eleven, not Ayres, who compiled the history of hip-hop….Ayres is sorta like the gay Pras out The Rub. And if you’re not co-opting Hollertronix, then why drop a track that’s a sorry, paint-by-numbers attempt at the Paper Route Gangstaz crossover sound…

      The “plexiglass” thing is from OC, and it’s like a term of art now…but yeah, you mad…

  3. I hate to say it, but snoozefest is right.
