St. Louis was quick, too quick for a visit Nick Hook’s hometown.
Coming off a long night in Chicago, I slept the whole way until we were under the famous arch. We pulled in to a quaint strip of St Louis to indulge in some of the country’s finest Pho at Pho Grand, which was a high priority item for this tour. The pho was so real.
After dinner we hopped over to the venue, Fubar which is only 6 months old and looks like they’ve been there for 20 years. The room itself is littered with posters for punk and metal shows, tons of graffiti and a damn good soundsystem stacked from floor to ceiling.
I hung out with Julian in the back and went through photos and video while the group sound checked. We had the pleasure to meet and kick it with Black Spade, Phase One, Grady who runs the bar, and a bunch of Nick’s hometown friends. One of which, Frank, the owner of local skate shop Soka, rolled up with 20 Cubic Zirconia custom made skateboards with art by Matt Deutchmann. They are incredible.

The real highlight of the night was some incredibly talented St Louis locals, Rockwell Knuckles, Tef Poe and Corey Black. It was a thin crowd on Sunday night, they performed like the room was packed and kept the energy high. They brought a excellent set of flat out good hip hop. Keep an eye out for a feature on Rocky and Tef coming soon, in the meantime, Tef One just dropped this free album and Rocky has one coming out tomorrow.

The guys introduced Cubic Zirconia to the room, as “one of our favorite bands”. They took stage and rolled out the set as routine, making sure the crowd was in for the ride. Tiombe worked the room, walking out in the crowd and dancing across stage. Judging by the swarm around the merch table after the show, I think they dug it.
We piled in the van and picked up yet another last minute afterparty and DJ set at a neon bowling alley in downtown St. Louis. Frank from Soka was on lane 3 and we took over the music for the venue. Let me tell you, bowling and Aquemini is the way to go.
Today, we hit the old pizza shop Nick worked at when he was 15, that shares a strip of shops housing Soka. We popped in to say hi to the fellas and hit the road.
Tonight, we’re going to throw down in… another pizza shop this one with a venue. We’ll be rocking out in Oklahoma City with Kids at the Bar, Jabee and Joshua Distance. It’s going down.
