What do you get when you combine Grammy-award winning band the Deftones with two of the most talked about visual artists in current press? The ocular treat that is the band’s first music video in three years, “Rocket Skates.”
The video was directed by 13th witness, who has worked with everyone from vblog personality, Levi Maestro, to the music world’s crooning lothario, John Mayer. Rounding out the prodigious production who’s who was new media agency Kenzo Digital, who have been pushing their latest creative work, City of God’s Son, an experimental hip hop opera, bringing together Nas, Jay Z, Ghostface, Biggie Smalls, Raekwon, Samuel Jackson, Delroy Lindo, and Laurence Fishburne.
You have to wonder, how exactly did all these personalities connect in order to bring this project to life? We have reason to believe that the extremely well-connected executive producer, Sky Gellatly may have had something to do with it–the man seems to know everyone–but we’re not vaulting to any hasty conclusions. What we do know for sure is that regardless of how the stars aligned to craft this gem of a vid, it’s definitely gotten us excited for a return to form for The Deftones on their new album, set to drop May18th.
