After the event, DJ Rap left a Facebook message about the RESPECT crowd and club: “I just want to say thank you for your support… big up to all the MCs and Reid speed, who were bad ass… I want to play more regularly in LA!”
It can be argued that in recent years, drum and bass has struggled to maintain the recognition it deserves within the underground music scene, where genres like dubstep and electro have since gained mass popularity and have taken over many of the big club circuits and raves. A few well-known dnb DJs have hung up their hats on the genre, refusing to play it at clubs and opting to produce more mainstream electro-pop tracks. RESPECT continues to prove that drum and bass is still a driving force in the dnb scene; the fans come rather religiously and the performers play what they love in a place that appreciates it the most. For RESPECT and the JP crew, the old-time saying still rings true: if you build it, they will come.*
