I was able to get a quick Q + A, with Mix Master Mike before he was scheduled to hit the stage and close the Red Bull Thre3Style battle show at Playhouse. The club was too loud to talk inside, so we had to do the interview in the back patio behind Playhouse.

How are you feeling about the show tonight, I heard you were asked to be a judge for the battle is that true? My manager and I are good friends with a lot of people from Red Bull, and they did ask me to judge.  But, I told them I couldn’t be a judge. To be honest I wanted to have a chill night, just listen to music, hang with friends, and perform. Judging would be like comparing fruit, and how can I compare the flavors of different juices, ya know? I’m excited about this show, I love what Red Bull is doing. They are always finding ways to incorporate talented individuals into one show. It’s great because everyone can feed off each other and grow.

What advice would you give to the Djs performing tonight?

I would tell them it’s all about the crowd. So, pay attention to the vibe. If one DJ is getting a lot of love, the pressure is on for the next to keep the party going, and then some!

I noticed you posted up the official artwork for your new album “Plasma Rifle,” on your site. Is there a release date for it?

Yeah, I’m excited! The album is coming out in May.

lizlopez mixmastermike Review: Red Bull Thre3Style in Los Angeles + Interviews with Winner Morse Code, and DJ Mix Master Mike. You have been busy since the ball dropped and the New Year was announced. With all the free mixes you have posted, production work your doing for the video game Scratch, and designing your own custom skull candy headphones, what other projects are you currently working on?

Did you get the new free mix? I just posted the “Napalm Rockets” on my site. It’s some dubstep x futuristic sound. It’s dope, check it out. And, Yeah the Skull candy headphones are going to come out with the album in May, can’t wait for that. I’m working on some craziness right now! I’m working on a new album, “ELEMENTS” with Dj Muggs, js-1, and Rahzel. You all ain’t ready!haha..

Are you keeping in contact with the Beastie Boys, and are there any plans for a tour? Yeah, as their DJ I’m always in contact with them. And a tour is definitely coming, probably even later this year.

Coming from San Francisco, building a name for yourself within the mixed culture of talent and individual style, How do you feel about the younger generation coming through having you as a big influence in their hustle? Any advice or words of wisdom?

It feels good to know that by doing something I love, I inspired someone else. I grew up being inspired by others, so I can understand, and I appreciate it. I would say to stay hungry. And never be too full.

I’m expecting a freestyle performance tonight, is that what I’m going to get?

Ah, come on girl, you know me! Ask my friends in there they all know I’m all about the freestyle. I don’t go off a script; I’m like a painter going into a studio looking at a blank canvas. I put in work! If I’m feeling the blues I’ll brush in some blue, if I need some yellow I’ll throw in some yellow, purples, blacks, aqua, whatever I feel I need to make my own master piece, a great show I mean, haha.

Anything you want to give a shout out for, before heading back inside for your set?

Everything is on my site. The free downloads, Scratch, Plasma Rifle coming out, and “ELEMENTS” album.

“…It’s crazy… we going hard!”
