While the name Arablak is probably a new one to the Urb.com crowd, it’s a name that I’ve been championing since first hearing his single, “The Deed,” last year. As Arablak, who hails from the ATL (via Massachusetts), readies for his debut album Fresh Heir, he drops the video for “The Deed.” Following the TRUE essence of hip hop, the single possesses a blaring horn sample laced over a boom-bap drum pattern produced by DJ Manipulator. Bliggs (as he is also known as) delivers verse after verse of clever rhyme patterns and creative braggadocio lines that volleys into a classic hip hop chorus.
Even the video has that throwback feeling to it, as the graphics remind me of what I used to see on the Yo! MTV Raps intro as a snot-nosed high school punk. The rest of it takes you around Arablak’s surroundings, while it’s nothing groundbreaking, it feels comfortable like a worn pair of Adidas. I expect big things from Arablak’s debut album, and this is a great start.
