Tanya Morgan kicked off the High Fidelity tour at SOB’s last night to a warm crowd of supporters and artists. YC The Cynic and P.SO performed and promoted their upcoming releases. YC The Cynic is an up-and-coming emcee from the Bronx worth checking for. He recently dropped Your Welcome and is performing all over NYC. The talented emcee/producer P.SO (formerly P.Casso) of the AOK Collective performed new music from his upcoming release Moontones and turned a Guitar Hero controller into an MPC, recreating popular beats on stage.
Kooley High, a 6 person crew from Raleigh NC hit the stage with something to prove. Each of the three emcees brought their own energy and style, Tab-One is the fiery lyricist, Charley Smarts brings contemplative rhymes and Rapsody having a mix of both. The two producers, Foolery and The Sinopsis recreated a few Michael Jackson sampled songs live on the MPC while DJ Ill Digitz orchestrated. Their set was tight, mixing back and forth between original production and popular instrumentals that complemented the overall mood of the song, acapella verses and the occasional dance number (forreal).
Tanya Morgan started their set off with the premier of the Bang Boogie video and hit the stage performing songs from their first album Moonlighting all the way up to Brooklynati. Donwill performed tracks from his new album Don Cusack in High Fidelity. The trio have been a mainstay of the NY hip hop scene and their consistent releases and sonic progression are testaments to the work ethic emcees of the internet age must display. Check the tour dates to see when they’re coming to your city.
