Last Saturday I was lucky enough to attend Breakbot’s “Baby I’m Yours” release party, presented by WADKLUB and Ed Banger Records, at Paris’s 1979 Restaurant/Lounge. Thibault Berland, Ed Banger’s newest edition to l’equipe, truly deserved the bangin’ party that was thrown in honor of his debut EP under the label. Breakbot is paving the way for a new definition of electro-pop, using smooth tunes, retro vocals, catchy beats, and mixing them together to create a truly original sound. Breakbot stood in the DJ booth with his usual air of shyness, bopping along timidly to his perfectly crafted mixes and structured transitions while the rest of the crowd and the other supportive artists of the French powerhouse label went crazy for his set. He played newbies, “Baby I’m Yours” and “Make You Mine” as well as some old crowd pleasers – his take on Metronomy’s “A Thing For Me.” Ed Banger Records, also home to Justice, DJ Mehdi, Uffie, and Busy P among others, did good with this one.
