It’s the night before V-Day, and I am heading into Hollywood for a bangin’ Avaland (Avalon) party. A lover of club tracks that tell me to “drop it,” and “pop it,” I can’t deny my love for techno. At the top of the list to perform this night was none other than Ali Shirazinia aka Dubfire (member of Grammy Award-winning Deep Dish). With his departure for a solo career back in 2006, Dubfire has three in a half years of musical progression underneath his fingertips. Dubfire is internationally recognized for his pioneering in DJ technology, influential mixing, and award winning music. Knowing that Avalon provides music lovers with an open venue from 10 pm to 7 am, I had a gut feeling that Dubfire was not set to perform later into the night. My instinct payed off as I arrived late enough to miss the warm up deejays, but right on time to see Dubfire walk up to the platform.

It was around 1am when Dubfire began playing that I started making my way to the front. As you can imagine by that time the place was packed. As I was passing through the crowd, I could feel the tempo vibrating under my feet. With every footstep closer to the front, my body felt as if it were being bolted by the invisible sound waves. This force is what made all the elbowing, the “sorry,” and “excuse”  from the back worth it. At the front and basking in my successful journeydubfire copy I noticed the peculiar stage design Dubfire was sporting. With barely enough room for his table setup, Dubfire was accompanied by two woman dancing seductively at both ends of the stage. These raved out dancers were posted in front of these strange Tim Burton style trees. I lost myself within the tempo, and began to drown out the built up stress from earlier that day. Dubfire set the mood with the sound of his dark techno, and the light show that was briliantly choreographed to the momentum of his music.

The culture that night was thriving, filled with a beautiful mix of fans excited to see Dubfire do what he does best. With every confident smirk and arm wave he gave the audience as they praised him for the boosts of adrenaline, he knew he was in control. Man handling center stage Dubfire tapped into the inhaling and exhales of the crowd that night. It was as if everyone in the venue was on the same rhythmic roller coaster anticipating a steep fall with every bass..bass..bass..bass..long pause,..BOOM!
