Lucent L’Amour ft. Bassnectar, N.A.S.A., Stanton Warriors

Burning Man Comes To Downtown Los Angeles

Ever wonder what it would really be like to fall down a rabbit hole and end up in Wonderland?  Then enter the Lucent Lamour experience, an interactive art and music festival that lures you deep into a world of fantasy, self-discovery and artistic expression, aimed to expand your mind and stimulate all of your senses (results, of course, depend on how much acid you’ve consumed).  This visionary event takes place annually in Los Angeles on Valentines Day weekend and is presented by Do-Lab, the collective well-known for creating many of the dramatic installations and eccentric environments at festivals like Coachella and Burning Man.  Thousands of attendees came out to witness live art creations, theatrical performances, carnival freaks and exotic beats.

Of course the biggest obstacle was actually getting into the event, since cops swarmed the venue and set up check points on the blocks surrounding it at a merely 10pm (are people even legally wasted by 10pm?! Don’t answer that).  Once you finally made it inside- and your eyes adjusted to the red-lit hallways, castle-like constructions and creepy forest creatures- you were immediately bummed to find out that they stopped serving liquor at midnight, although that didn’t seem to prevent anyone from enjoying themselves.

The major draw for Lucent Lamour is typically the diverse array of music, this year featuring Bassnectar, Stanton Warriors, N.A.S.A., Yard Dogs Road Show, Lucent Dossier Experience and Lazor Sword, to name a few of the highlights.  The sounds transformed from folk to funk, dancehall to dubstep, drum & bass to breaks in a seemingly natural progression, and the crowd seemed to embrace each new style and performance.  There was a unique sense of unity that you don’t typically find at raves these days, then again, this isn’t your typical rave.  It’s moreso a community of like-minded anti-conformists who come together to celebrate love and appreciate life, as one [burner] nation under a groove. **
