Manifest Equality

L.A.-based activists call out to artists to enter work for a worthy cause.

Art does wonders for the soul. And the Los Angeles equal rights movement firmly believes in that.

The Manifest Equality community is sponsoring a national art contest for all and any artists that would like to help contribute awareness towards equal rights. The company, who also has a gallery space in downtown LA, will showcase five, 1st place winners during Oscar Week, placing the pieces with some of art’s most respected contemporary artists. And their purpose, which is, at the very least, to be heard, will be unavoidable.

To enter, visit their website at www.manifestequality.com and check out their submission guidelines. The pieces, which can be many forms of visual art, have to center around themes of equality, respect, justice, unity, civil rights and love. They will also be accepted from January 20th, 2010 through February 19th, 2010 at 11:59 am, PST. The judges, who range from L.A’s mayor to a Vogue editor to established artists themselves, will pick five, 1st prize winners that will have the honor of showing their work from Wednesday, March 3rd – Sunday, March 7th (also known as Oscar Week). The judges will also choose ten 2nd prize winners who’s art will be showcased along with the 1st place winners on the Manifest Equality online gallery.

Visit their website for more details on the event and their cause.
