Lone: Sending Synthesized Shivers Down Your Spine + EXCLUSIVE Unreleased Track (MP3)

Going between the worlds of Aphex Twin and Wu-Tang, while stopping by for some chocolate cake.

URB: Can you elaborate on the process of building a track in your way?
LONE: It’s completely different pretty much every time in terms of the processes. I truly think I’m the least technical producer out there. I can barely hold a conversation about production techniques or studio gear and stuff. So I’d like to keep the way I work quite close to my chest. My friends know how I do my shit, and they’re all way more schooled in how things are “supposed to be done” than I am, and they all think they way I work is pretty retarded, to be honest. But, as a little kid working it out for myself, that’s the best way I could find to work everything. I feel completely comfortable working on music now, using the software and stuff is as comfortable to me as playing a guitar feels to someone like Bibio, I imagine,  so I don’t try to question it too much, I just have fun writing.

URB: What makes Ecstasy & Friends different from your previous two albums (2007’s Everything Is Changing Colour and 2008’s Lemurian)?
LONE: There’s no real re-invention or anything. It’s just the next batch of tracks to be released. I think of this album as a nice link to what I’m about to do. So, the way I’m thinking at the moment, it’s the next album that’s going to be more of  a leap into something else. The only goal I set for myself was to make nicer melodies. Melodies that give me that “shiver” and hopefully other people as well. I’m constantly driving myself to make the lushest music imaginable, and I’m still nowhere near that yet, I think. Although a friend of mine said recentley Ecstasy & Friends made him feel a bit sick because it was “too lush.” Like, a really nice chocolate cake that’s gorgeous and everything but just a bit too rich… I though that was perfect.

URB: What does your live set consist of that’s different from your productions? What can we expect out of a Lone set?
LONE: I like to play as much unreleased material as possible. So if I’m doing a “live” set, you won’t hear much from Ecstasy & Friends or Lemurian. It’ll be the newest shit I’ve got, because that’s what I’d want to hear from an artist [whom] I was going to see play out.

URB: Is there anything you wish a producer would or wouldn’t do more of?
LONE: Not sure to be honest, I’ll leave that up to them. I really don’t follow too much of what other producers are up to- -if I’m not working on or listening to my own tunes, I’m usually listening to really old hip-hop and old techno, so I pay very little attention. My friends are bang on it though, they’d probably be able to answer that question a lot better than I could!

URB: Which artists or tracks are you loving at the moment?
LONE: Like I said,  I find it hard to keep up with whats going on these days. But luckily for me, I’ve got to meet some wicked producers along the way who I find totally inspiring: Actress, Nathan Fake and Joy Orbison are killin’ it for me. I haven’t named any of their tracks because I feel like that would be like picking their favorite children, so I’d say just get everything you can by them because everything I’ve heard so far is absolutely amazing.

URB: Ultimately, what do you want listeners to get out of your music?
LONE: Nice shivers down their spines from the chords and melodies. And in extreme cases, perhaps maybe even a little tear like what I get from my favorite tunes.

Thanks so much to Lone for this interview and this EXCLUSIVE STREAM of “BFBM1″
