Top of Kilimanjaro with Lupe, Kenna, Santigold

Go Big or Go Home for a Good Cause

It took the crew six days, but everyone made it to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro. After making it up a very cool 19,340 ft. Kenna said, “Even with as many grandiose illusions that I have had, this has gone beyond my wildest dreams and expectations. The influencers, educators, staff, crew, and publicists have literally braved this on behalf of the world and in a personally meaningful way on behalf of my father.”

They battled the elements–rain, wind, snow and hail–and physical discomfort like dizziness, headaches and other high-altitude impairments for a good cause: the Summit on the Summit campaign was started by Kenna to raise awareness about the increasing need for clean drinking water around the globe. Kenna’s father suffered from water-borne illness growing up in Ethiopia and he lost his uncle to related causes.

Kenna added, “I also can’t be more thankful for all the people that followed us, donated and have fought the global clean water crisis with us.” Supporters followed the action and were able to interact with the climbers through the SUMMIT ON THE SUMMIT: Kilimanjaro website which was updated daily with photos, videos and information, and the online support via Facebook, Twitter (@sotsk) and the climber blog was outstanding. All funds raised will be managed and distributed through the United Nations Foundation.

The entire crew consisted of Isabel Lucas, Emile Hirsch, Jessica Biel, Elizabeth Gore, Alexandra Cousteau, Bernise Ang, Kick Kennedy, Simon Isaacs, Michael Muller, Jimmy Chin, Melissa Arnot and Dr. Greg Allgood.

Congratulations!

MTV will air a special on the climb on March 14th.
