URB Best of the Decade Winners

We asked and you answered—what were the greatest artist, albums and more from the first decade of the 21st century. And while the winners weren’t shocking, this survey still reminds us of the amazing musical decade that just passed. Each winner here represents not just great artistic success, but immense influence on the decades music at large.

Three artist effectively swap places in the categories of Artist, Album and Single of the Decade, proving that greatness in a musician means delivering the full package. All of the winners asserted their dominance during the first half of the decade, making you ponder what the blogging generation will have to show for their star acts. And all but one o the winning acts are duos, which might just prove…well, we don’t really know. Still, with each of these acts, you’d be hard pressed to argue against their inclusion. Maybe they call music universal, because when it’s truly great, it’s something we can all agree on.

Artist of the Decade – RADIOHEAD

What makes Radiohead’s position as URB reader’s Artist of the Decade most impressive is that they would have likely been selected Artist of the ’90s as well. Yorke and company enter their third decade with the same amount of relevance they’ve had since their very first single back in 1992. And it’s a safe bet that their music, their methods and their mind-blowing light shows will continue to astound.

If the ’00s were the age of southern rap dominance, then these two lyrical Shakespeares from Atlanta lead the charge, even if their actual recorded output waned.

Runner Up 2 – Daft Punk
The third pillar of URB’s rock-rap-rave coverage stands secure with this French duo who were almost forgotten by the second half of the decade—before coming back with the greatest live show many had ever seen.
