By way of a heads-up on the kind of free activity that makes living in cities worthwhile — and a brilliant ‘09 festival flashback — here’s details on David Byrne’s FREE A/V presentation and Q+A tonight in Brooklyn, as well as two performances from his fully righteous set at Bonnaroo.
Expanding on the role of artist-in-residence at Bonnaroo, Byrne became this storied festival’s inaugural curator, booking Ani DiFranco, St. Vincent, Santigold, Dirty Projectors, and Katzenjammer, thus single-handedly turning the male to female performers ratio on its head. Byrne was a classic ‘Roo gadfly, playing multiple stages, but it was his entire set, performed with dancers and a full backing band (see tags and please add missing names, dear readers) that turned yet another Tennessee night into a classic. So, here’s to highlights from last year, and here’s the first one. And, by way of an inspirational lyric as you start the new year, whoever you are, the final verse from his second song, “Feel My Stuff”:
I feel my stuff /
I changed my luck /
I come back to be stronger
