One of the downsides to 2009 was the amount of amazing musicians we lost. Even if you only counted the last 6 months we have lost too many good people from our hearts and stereos, the most high profile of these being The King of Pop – Michael Jackson. The event will most likely go down in our minds ranked up there with the falling of the Berlin Wall or the Twin Towers, the day the King of Pop fell. Despite any feelings you had for the man, good or bad, you will have to answer questions about it in the future. Five years from now you could be around a dinner table discussing what you where doing when these events happened. 15 years from now your children or grand children will ask you who he was or what it was like having him around.
It’s easy to to start with the more negative aspects of his life but in your description don’t let the end dictate the beginnings. Dig hard enough and you can always find a reason you loved MJ. He empowered you at some point in your life. As a fitting send off to 2009 Spike Lee has left us with a posthumous video for MJ’s last song. Spike remembered why we loved him, hell I doubt Spike himself would ever be able to forget. Maybe someday you can show this to your grand kids and say, “Despite what you may read this is what the man really did.”
Truly a beautiful piece of short film Spike and a credit to the man we all grew up with.
