Dome Shots & Fat Laces is always dropping fresh new hip-hop mixes on the daily. They are a prime source for excellent mixes from around the country and always provide quality digital mixtapes from all kinds of hip-hop DJs but I was blown away when this one came out. They called it a “rare gem” and I say that is being humble. While the quality is not what we are used to here in the ultra modern digital world it is still oh so worth it.
Let me reiterate exactly what this is by stating what the DS&FL site says…
“It’s is a live tape from 1985 at the YMCA on 52nd St. in Philly with Jazzy Jeff, Cash Money, Grandmaster Nell, Spinbad & Force Five Productions.”
This is a YMCA mixtape from deep in the history vaults of Philly. After some careful inspection by the DS&FL crew it has been determined that Grandmaster Nell is nowhere to be found on the mix which is a shame but that still leaves you with Jeff, Cash, and Spinbad – the man who invented transforming for the DJ.
Rare gems are what you dig up in a South American jungle somewhere. This my friends is so rare it could only be described as a historical hip-hop meteorite of the most valuable kind! Grab the mix digitized from tape HERE.
