Obsession – Andy Caldwell (Review)

Andy Caldwell

Obsession

Released by Uno Recordings

Andy Caldwell finally comes through with anew installment as well as a resurection of his label Uno Recordings.  Having has quite a large year of touring it comes as a surprise that he could actually find the time to produce such a well crafted record between gigs and running a label.  But, Andy did what he set out to do, move his sound of house away from San Francisco to the more bouncy sounds of the UK and Switzerland.

The first release, “It’s Guud” featuring Mr. V sums up that sound and shift perfectly.  The track commands 4 out 5 on the bounce factor, a tune that has already been rocking dance floors for quite sometime.  Mr. V just has that knack of lending his voice to sexy tracks that make you gravitate toward the dance floor to work it out.  Andy’s choice of female vocal to pair with Mr. V is not too shabby either.  But Mr. V is by far the only cameo on the album.

The most notable is Gram’Ma Funk on “Funk Nasty”, a voice that had been lost to me since much younger days dancing to Groove Armada tracks.  Possibly another tie to more European dance floors.  All in all most vocals throughout the album will give you a different feel.  Alexander Sky on “Don’t Go Home Tonight” takes you a bit more down the Indie/Electro road while Gina Rene brings it back stateside on “Fear My Pride” with a bit more of a US house sound.

Obsession will take you a few places, with the fast and bouncy as well as the slower and more vocal tracks.  All in all Andy has done well to create a record that is representative of himself and his talents instead of an outright DJ album.  This disc has depth to it that isn’t always found in dance albums and will be most loved by Caldwell fans across the globe.
