The Prairie Cartel – Where Did All My People Go

No Tags

“And the glow is all gone and you don’t want to go home,” howls Scott Lucas on The Prairie Cartel’s closing track, “The Glow is Gone.” The Chicago-based quartet was voted the winner of URB’s NEXT 100 for indie-rock and the debut Where Did All My People Go boasts an assortment of stellar tracks. Lacing these tracks together with the electronic sounds this act is famous for, the album kicks things off with some heady staccato rhythms on “Keep Everybody Warm” and truly hits its stride after “Just Like Chemicals.” Current single “No Light Escapes Here” is a prime example of what the band shines at; whereas, a track like “Suitcase Pimp” is a joke for shits and giggles. “Beautiful Shadow” shows a doleful side to contrast the anthemic “Fuck Yeah That Wide.” Where Did is a balanced album, deep as it is cursory, inspired and executed under the rock banner, it is heavily influenced by electronic, house and funk. The Prairie Cartel’s self-released debut is original and effervescent.
